Do you start off the year with a list of resolutions but end up not following through? That used to be me. Over the years, I would start a new routine for a few days, but soon after, it would flop. Or in other words, I would end up giving up even before the water settled. This would happen every single time, and I couldn’t really pinpoint what exactly caused this. I would watch my favourite influencers and celebrities and wonder what really set them apart from me. What did they do that I didn’t? Or was not willing to do? There had to be something missing. So after much deliberation and a critical analysis, I figured out what was really affecting my discipline. So if you are a lot like me, then this might be what is killing your discipline in 2026.
Self doubt

When you do not believe in yourself, it is very easy for you to fall back into old habits. We often tend to have self-doubt when we continuously fail to check off the simple tasks in our daily lives. It’s no secret that in order to achieve something, you have to trust yourself. You need to fully trust your ability to go after your goals. Whether this means showing up even when you really do not feel like it.
Self-trust comes from continuously accomplishing your tasks. For instance, if you say you were going to do your laundry first thing in the morning, then that is what you should do. Completing tiny habits during the day wires your brain to register that you always do what you said you would. The moment you build this momentum, you quickly establish a form of self-reliance that provides the safety of knowing that you are capable of completing something that you put your mind to.
Inconsistency
Another thing that is killing your discipline in 2026 is the lack of consistency. Fitness gurus state that for you to see any change in your physique you have to do the same workouts, eat the same foods, and drink the same amount of water every single day. This is expected every day, for a couple of weeks, maybe even months. The same thing applies to our daily lives. To grow a business, you must consistently put in the same amount of effort every single day for at least 6 months to see some growth. Where am I headed with this? You cannot expect to see changes, progress, or growth when you are not willing to put in the work. You need to show up everyday if not as frequently as possible, for the things that you care about.
In short, consistency pays, and inconsistency is killing your discipline!
Comparison
Ever heard of the saying, “Do not compare yourself to others. Compare yourself to who you were yesterday.” – Jordan Peterson. When you are constantly watching other people’s lives and comparing them to yours, more often than not you end up not making any moves. Believe it or not, we compare our day one to some people’s day 995. What most people show us on the internet is most likely the result of working hard and being consistent for days upon days.
If you’re constantly watching your neighbour’s garden, you’ll never water your own.
When you compare your progress to someone else’s, you might end up feeling discouraged, causing you to give up on your goals. Take a step back and refocus your attention on your own journey because at the end of the day, our timelines will always be different from one another.
I hope that this article resonated with you and that from here, you are going to approach your goals with a completely new mindset.
See you on the next one!
