Every new year, we often want to change our lives and be better versions of ourselves. This comes with new year resolutions, vision boards and a list of things that we wouldn’t be doing in this new year. Sometimes we forget that in order for these changes to actualise, we need to change our daily habits. So, here are 5 Soft Girl Habits for a fresh start that will guide you on how to reset your life:

Finding joy in the daily mundane

Creators on the internet always speak of romanticizing your life. What this means is that you make your daily routines or chores to be more appealing than they actually is. For instance, as soon as you wake up, you think that you have the ‘tedious’ task of brushing your teeth and doing your skincare. Instead, to make these simple tasks more appealing, maybe listen to a morning affirmations video from YouTube, while doing them. This reminds you that you are taking care of yourself because you love and value yourself. So next time, instead of hurrying to the kitchen to make your coffee, wishing you ordered one instead. Why not do it while listening to your favourite podcast?

Get a hobby

The only reason you think your life is boring is that you are not busy enough. Hold on, not busy in the sense of working or chasing the bag (money), but busy in the sense of being productive. So what does this really entail? Think of easy habits you can start at home. Instead of constantly scrolling on your phone, keeping up with your favourite influencers, you could pick a colouring book and start colouring. Or maybe pick up painting, knitting, writing, gardening (like actual planting something and not smoking the za! Not that I’m judging 😉). This allows your brain to actually rest and eliminates the need to constantly compare your life to other people’s. You can be productive with your time by doing things that bring joy back into your life. Focusing on this instead of continuously watching people while they live their own lives.

Prioritize movement

Our bodies were not made to be immobile. We need to move so that we can release all the energy that we have been storing. Movement also helps you get that snatched waist, that dream body that you have been obsessing over a long time. This can be walking to your favourite cafe and grabbing a coffee instead of placing an order on Uber Eats. Don’t be obsessed with doing 10k steps when you have never made it to 6k in your life. Start slow, start small and slowly you will get to those 10k steps that every weight loss guru swears by.

Put that phone down

We live in an era where the first thing we do is check our phones for notifications. Always scrolling on apps such as TikTok or Instagram. This constant consumption limits our effectiveness and productivity. It is very easy to get lost while scrolling, forgetting that we actually had plans for the day. Take me for instance, I have been a victim of doom scrolling for years. I would postpone on the important tasks of the day. Choosing to scroll through my phone instead of actually getting to perform my tasks.

It is okay to put your phone aside and get to live your life. So what if you don’t know the latest meme? Or if you are not up to date with Lori Harvey’s new catch? These things come and go, there will always be something new to obsess over on the internet. Don’t let this hold you back from living your dream life.

Set aside self-care days

We are often consumed with the hustle culture, forgetting to really take a step back and take care of ourselves. When you don’t prioritize self-care, everything else starts to be overwhelming. Setting aside a day to just unwind and pamper ourselves can create a shift even in our daily lives. It depicts self-love even on days when life seems hard. It’s easy to differentiate someone who takes rest and self-care seriously from one who ignores it. Remember, you cannot pour from an empty cup, so fill your own cup first before attempting to pour into others.

Being a soft girl means moving with intentionality and the keenness. Realising that your life can be just the same as that one influencer you love, or even better.
